Man held in slashing, tying up of girlfriend

A Fort Wayne man was arrested Wednesday after he was accused of cutting his girlfriend’s chin and neck with a knife before tying her to a chair and leaving her in her living room last weekend.

Steven J. Briggs, 42, told police he arrived at the woman’s home, found her tied to the chair and became so afraid that he ran out of the house and didn’t offer any help.

The woman told police the fight started about 6 a.m. Saturday when Briggs returned home, and the woman asked where he’d been.

She told police Briggs became irate and got a knife he used to cut her chin and neck while saying he would kill her. Briggs then forced the woman into the living room and tied her to a chair. He said he’d be back in 15 minutes to kill her, she told police.

Briggs, of the 2200 block of Point West Drive, faces preliminary charges of criminal confinement, battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and domestic battery.

He was being held in lieu of $55,000 bail.
