1 arrested in spree of chain saw theft

A month-long investigation into thefts from local hardware stores ended with a New Haven man charged with the theft of 10 chain saws worth about $4,000.

From July 16 to Aug. 11, investigators watched video at three Lowe’s stores, where 25-year-old Shane A. Kieler was seen grabbing one or two chain saws, depending on the date, and walking out of the store, according to a probable cause affidavit.

In one case where two saws were taken, police wrote that Kieler drove off in an effort to deliberately avoid Lowe’s employees from seeing the license plate.

Kieler was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
