Man in critical condition after drive-by shooting

A man was left in critical condition this afternoon after he was shot several times in a drive-by shooting.

Fort Wayne police were called about 4:15 p.m. to the 2800 block of Drexel Avenue on a report that someone was shot, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Officers arrived and found a man who was shot several times as he stood along the street, police said.

The man was "teetering" between serious and critical condition about an hour after the shooting, Michael Joyner, police spokesman, said at the scene.

Joyner said a small, dark-colored compact car was seen driving west on Drexel Avenue and gunfire erupted when the car approached the victim.

Detectives were canvassing the area looking for witnesses.

What appeared to be several shell casings were seen marked in the street.
