1 injured in early morning car-semi crash

Statement as issued Tuesday morning from the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department:

On 09/02/2014, at approximately 3:16 a.m., the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 2200 block of U.S. Highway 6 in Corunna for a personal injury car vs. semi accident.

Percilla Ruble, 67 of Butler, was driving a 2004 red Chevrolet Cavalier westbound on U.S. Highway 6 when she drove left of center into the path of a semi being driven by Keith Sparkman, 48, of Garrett.

Keith stated he observed the vehicle enter his lane of travel and he swerved, leaving the road on the south side, to avoid the collision.

The Chevrolet struck the trailer being hauled by the semi causing both rear axles to completely detach from the trailer.

Percilla was pinned in the vehicle when first responders arrived on scene. Percilla was extricated from the vehicle by the Corunna Fire Department and was flown to Parkview Regional for treatment. As of 6:23 am Percilla was in the ICU and listed in stable condition. Medical staff stated she suffered several rib fractures and a broken wrist.

Keith was uninjured from the accident.

The accident is still under investigation.

The Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Waterloo Police Department, Corunna Fire Department, Dekalb EMS, and Parkview Samaritan.
