Thunderstorms expected today, tonight

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon and evening, primarily west of Interstate 69, the National Weather Service said today.

The storms will spread eastward through the evening and overnight into Tuesday, with the potential for strong to severe storms containing damaging wind gusts and hail up to 1 inch in diameter, the weather service in northern Indiana said.

It said thunderstorms continuing into the night may produce heavy rain and increase the potential for flooding, especially southeast of U.S. 24.
