TinCaps win doubleheader opener

The TinCaps scored three runs in the fourth inning to beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods 3-1 in the opener of a doubleheader Sunday in Kentucky.

With the win, the TinCaps (31-37) moved into a tie with Great Lakes for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division.

The Hot Rods opened the scoring with a solo home run from Julian Ridings in the bottom of the second.

Fort Wayne loaded the bases on hits by Nick Shulz and Josh VanMeter and a walk to Trea Turner. Fernando Perez's double cleared the bases and gave the TinCaps the 3-1 lead. Perez has 95 RBI on the season to lead the team.

Reliever Jason Jester (3-1) picked up the win, and Ryan Butler got his 10th save.
