    Mallex Smith, who was the TinCaps' center fielder for the 2013 season and the first half of 2014, was voted by fans as the top offensive player in the minor leagues during the past season.

Control playoff fate

The TinCaps swept a doubleheader Sunday night at Bowling Green, 3-1 and 2-1 to move a half-game ahead of Great Lakes for the final Eastern Division playoff spot.

Fort Wayne closes out the regular season with a 1 o'clock game Monday against the Hot Rods. Great Lakes plays at West Michigan. Dayton, which is a game behind the TinCaps, plays at Lake County.

In the opener, Fernando Perez hit a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs in the fourth inning.

In the nightcap, the TinCaps scored twice in the second on RBI singles by Nick Schulz and Henry Charles. and held on as Bowling Green scored once in the bottom of the seventh.
