Bluffton High School officials were told of a sexual relationship between a teacher and student after one of her friends reported it, a probable cause affidavit says.
Joshua L. Clark, 39, of the 1900 block of Huffman Boulevard in Fort Wayne, was charged Tuesday with felony child seduction, accused of having oral sex with a female student in his classroom as recently as last week.
The relationship between Clark and the student came to light Friday when one of her friends went to school officials, court records said.
Police took information they had about the allegations and recovered video surveillance from the school, which showed that the girl entered Clark’s classroom for about 45 minutes well before the start of school, the probable cause affidavit said.
The girl was adamant during her interview with police that nothing occurred between her and Clark before she turned 18 years old.
But in Clark’s interview, he told investigators the girl was still 17, according to a Bluffton police report.
Under Indiana law, teens can consent to sex when they are 16 or older. However, it is a felony if a person in a position of authority over the teen, such as a teacher or a military recruiter or a stepparent, engages in sexual activity with the teen if he or she is 16 to 18 years old.
Clark, who was a defensive coordinator for the high school football team and a math teacher, tendered his resignation Friday.
The district’s school board accepted his resignation this week.
