Tire factory to hire 60 workers

BFGoodrich invests in Woodburn

BFGoodrich Tire Manufacturing is beefing up its Woodburn workforce.

The company is working with WorkOne Northeast to fill up to 60 production positions. It’s unclear what the manufacturer’s plans for the 1.9 million-square-foot factory are.

In March 2011, plant manager Dent Johnson said Michelin had invested $272 million in the tire-making plant at 18906 U.S. 24 E. just since 1990. The company announced a $50 million investment in 2011.

A spokesman for the company didn’t return a call made Thursday seeking more information.

United Steel Workers Local 715, which represents the factory workers, couldn’t be reached.

A job fair will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 6 at the WorkOne office, 201 E. Rudisill Blvd., Suite 102, according to a statement.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old and willing to work full time on a 12-hour, rotating schedule. Required abilities include semi-skilled operation of machinery, frequent lifting, and standing for extended periods.

Pay starts at $14.57 an hour. After 30 days, workers receive a benefits package and the opportunity to earn more for certain jobs and shifts, according to a WorkOne statement.
