Southbound traffic was stopped due to an accident on the Interstate 469 southbound lane between US 24 and State Road 37 Wednesday afternoon.

A man died Wednesday afternoon after his pickup truck crashed through a guard rail on a dead-end road and flipped on its top in the southbound lane of Interstate 469, according to a statement from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

Police responded to the crash near the 22.4 mile marker on Interstate 469 at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses said a tan pick-up truck was traveling eastbound on Parent Road, which dead-ends just west of I-469, when the truck crashed through the guard rail and hit the embankment.

The truck then flipped on its top in the southbound lane of I-469. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.

The southbound lane of Interstate 469 was closed near exit 24 on Wednesday afternoon after the accident, backing up traffic for awhile before it was reopened around 4:30 p.m.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which remains under investigation.
