1 dead, 1 hurt after rollover

A 24-year-old Kendallville man died Saturday night after being ejected from a car in a single-vehicle crash on Indiana 4 near Hudson.

Christopher J. Hatch was reportedly not wearing a seat belt while riding as a passenger in an eastbound BMW that went off the south side of the road near County Road 11 about 11 p.m., according to the Indiana State Police.

The car rolled over and struck a tree before it came to a rest on its top.

While Hatch was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeKalb County coroner, the car’s driver, 23-year-old Noe Munoz-Rubio, had to be extricated from the wreckage by Ashley Fire Department firefighters.

Munoz-Rubio was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash but still suffered head, neck and facial injuries, according to the state police.

He was flown by Samaritan helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital.

An update on his current condition was unavailable.
