Christopher J. Hatch, 24, a passenger, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene of the 11 p.m. crash at Indiana 4 and County Road 11 near Ashley, state police at Fort Wayne said in a statement. Police said Hatch was not wearing a seat belt.

Police said the car, driven by Noe Munoz-Rubio, 23, of Orland was traveling east on Indiana 4 when it left the south side of the road, rolled over and struck a tree before coming to rest on its top.

Munoz-Rubio, who was wearing his seat belt, was trapped and had to be extricated from the car by Ashley firefighters, police said. He was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with head, neck and facial injuries.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, police said.
