A 22-year-old man was sentenced Friday to 12 years in prison for injuring a child in his care.

Charged in May with two counts of battery to a child and another charge of neglect of a dependent, Deandre Babson pleaded guilty in July to the two counts of battery. The neglect charge was dismissed Friday.

On Friday, Allen Superior Court Magistrate Samuel Keirns sentenced Brabson to 12 years in prison on each count, but ordered the sentences to be served at the same time.

Brabson, of the 7600 block of Cold Springs Boulevard, told police the baby was in his care in May and he got into an argument with the child's mother on the telephone.

Brabson told police the infant was “fussing, wanting a bottle” during his phone conversation and, out of frustration, he yanked her by the arm from the bed.

She continued to cry until the next morning when the cries turned to screams. Brabson said he could not calm her down and “shook her forcefully” back and forth twice, committing the second act of battery, according to court documents.

Hospital staff told police she suffered a broken right arm and a moderate brain bleed to the front portion of her brain.

Child molester gets12 years in prison

A 34-year-old man was sentenced Friday in Allen Superior Court to 12 years in prison for child molesting.

Jeremy T. Bolenbaugh, of New Haven, pleaded guilty in July to one of six charges of child molesting pending against him. The sixth charge was added at the time of the guilty plea hearing. The other five were dismissed.

As part of that plea agreement, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but eight years were suspended, with four years to be served on probation, according to court documents.

He was arrested and charged in May with five counts of child molesting after a young girl told her therapist Bolenbaugh had sex with her numerous times between 2010 and 2012. The girl was 9 at the time she disclosed the abuse, according to court documents.

She told police he had sex with her at home, in his car and at his sister's home, according to court documents.
