Women voters urged to register

YWCA, League offering local training, events

To commemorate the 94th anniversary of women getting the right to vote, the YWCA and League of Women Voters of Fort Wayne are making sure as many people are registered to vote as possible.

That effort continues today with voter registration at the Taste of the Arts festival downtown.

League members and the YWCA spent the summer working on voter registration training and registration of voters in the lead-up to the Tuesday anniversary.

To commemorate that date, the YWCA of Northeast Indiana will host a voter registration event from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at its office at 1610 Spy Run Ave.

There will also be a voter education class from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. to give new voters information about the process.

“Join us. All are welcome as we work to further our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women on this historic day,” said Mary Joe Hardiman, chief program officer.

Another voter registration will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Wunderkammer Company at 3402 Fairfield Ave. Anyone in the 46807 ZIP code is encouraged to attend and register between 7 and 9 p.m.
