Man charged in abuse of boy, 10

A Fort Wayne man was charged Thursday with picking up a 10-year-old boy by the neck and later throwing him into a cabinet.

Chad L. Harber, 34, of the 5500 block of Old Dover Road, is charged with felony battery.

Police were called about 1 a.m. Saturday to the 8500 block of Stellhorn Road and arrived to find several witnesses who said Harber abused the child.

Statements to police said Harber picked the boy up by his neck and pushed him against the refrigerator before Harber threw the child toward a cabinet.

The boy’s head and left shoulder hit the corner of the cabinet, a probably cause affidavit said.
