The United Way of Allen County issued this news release today:
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – United Way of Allen County’s Women United is pleased to announce a new grant for Paths to QUALITY childcare providers. The grant has been established to help move providers who are level one, two or three providers up to the next level in the Paths to QUALITY program, Indiana’s child care quality rating and improvement system.
Women United, an affinity group of United Way of Allen County, is a powerful collaboration of women committed to significantly improving the quality of life for the children in Allen County by ensuring their readiness for kindergarten. The Women United advocacy committee has established this non-renewable grant, which will allow providers to apply for up to $4,000 in assistance for educational materials for their programs or for assistance with certifications for their teachers. Applications can be found on United Way’s website and are due by October 3, 2014. The applications will then be reviewed by Early Childhood Alliance for compliance with the Paths to QUALITY program and the recipient(s) will be selected by the middle of October.
The grant has the potential to add to the number of providers in Allen County who are able to participate in the Preschool Pilot Program that Allen County was selected for at the end of July. The pilot program is set to begin in January, with vouchers being distributed to families that fall, at or below 127 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. These vouchers can be used at any qualifying level three or four Paths to QUALITY childcare provider.
“Women United is excited to assist childcare providers in Allen County move up a level in the Paths to QUALITY program,” said Women United president, Irene Walters. “By helping these providers today, we are able to better prepare Allen County children to succeed in school and in life tomorrow.”
