Verbatim: Fort Wayne man killed in crash on U.S. 33

A statement received Friday morning:

On (Friday) 08/15/2014 at approximately 3:18 a.m., the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on U.S. 33 near Hildebrand Road.

A male driver (not identified) in a white Chevrolet van, pulling a trailer, was Southbound on U.S. 33 and went off the roadway. The driver then overcorrected and went across the center line into oncoming traffic.

A male (not identified) driving a blue Nissan passenger car (Northbound U.S. 33) tried to avoid the van and swerved. The van struck the Nissan on the driver’s side in a t-bone collision.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van is in good condition.

No passengers were present in either vehicle.

The driver of the Nissan was wearing his seatbelt and it is unknown at this time if the driver of the van was wearing his seatbelt.

The driver of the van is from South Carolina and the driver of the Nissan is from Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The crash remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
