Underage drinking at Lake Wawasee

State conservation officers targeted Lake Wawasee’s sandbar over the weekend amid complaints of boater behavior and found more than a dozen underage people drinking alcohol.

During the patrols Saturday, officers ticketed 13 underage people for alcohol consumption and wrote two unrelated infractions for boating violations, according to the law enforcement division of the Department of Natural Resources.

Targeted patrols like the one at Wawasee during the weekend arise after complaints from the public draw the attention of DNR officers to a certain area, the department said.
