July crash injuries fatal to Huntington man

A Huntington man who suffered injuries last month in a dramatic single-vehicle crash in Fort Wayne that injured two others died at Lutheran Hospital.

Kevin L. Walda, 27, died from blunt-force trauma, according to a statement Monday from the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

According to witnesses and early reports, a van was speeding down Runnion Avenue as it went over the railroad tracks July 20.

As it neared Richardson Street, it began to flip. One of the three men inside the van was ejected and the others were trapped inside. The van then struck a light pole and took out a power line and eventually ended up near Runnion and Howell Street.

Alcohol was believed to have been a factor, according to the coroner’s office.

His death is the 14th traffic fatality in Allen County this year, according to the coroner’s office.
