Man accused of torching own truck

According to charges filed Monday in Allen Superior Court, someone broke into Dylan Goetterman’s truck and stole money from inside.

Using that event as a springboard, on June 28, Goetterman then piled magazines under the seats, poured lighter fluid on them and set them ablaze, according to documents charging him with arson and other felonies.

Goetterman, 22, of the 2300 block of Point West Drive, initially told police someone was interested in buying the truck and when he said no, the disappointed buyer must have come back to the vehicle and set it on fire. But under questioning by investigators, Goetterman said he set it on fire himself to ease financial hardships.

He told police he intended to file an insurance claim so he would no longer have to make payments to Auto Liquidation Center for the truck, according to court documents.

Goetterman faces charges of arson and criminal mischief. He had not been arrested as of Monday evening.
