Defendant gets time served in obstruction case

ANGOLA – A Fremont man convicted in connection with the slaying of a Muncie man at Jimmerson Lake won’t have to serve any additional time behind bars.

The Herald Republican and WOWO reported Lucas Baxla, 19, was sentenced Monday to 18 months, with one year suspended, for obstruction of justice.

He admitted disposing of the gun that was used to shoot and kill Ruben Sanchez Jr. in July 2013.

Because Baxla has already served 90 days, the equivalent of six months with credit for good behavior, he won’t have to serve any more time.

Mark Hines, 28, of Jimmerson Lake pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 45 years. Tyler Biggs, 19, of Fremont was sentenced to 15 years for conspiracy to commit murder.
