US fighters hit Islamic State convoy

WASHINGTON – U.S. military officials said American fighter aircraft struck and destroyed several vehicles Sunday that were part of an Islamic State group convoy moving to attack Kurdish forces defending the northeast Iraqi city of Irbil.

American soldiers and civilians are living in that Kurdish city.

Officials said in a statement that the air strike was one of a series against militants in Iraq in recent days. They say it took place at approximately 4 p.m. Fort Wayne time.
