Motorcyclist injured in Van Wert County

A motorcyclist in Van Wert County, Ohio, was injured Friday night when he drove off the road and his cycle pinned him down, according to a statement from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

James A. Goetz, 41, of Spencerville, Ohio, was traveling west around a curve on Ohio 116 when he drove off the right side of the road and his motorcycle came to rest on top of him at the edge of a cornfield, the highway patrol's Van Wert post said in a statement.

Goetz was life-flighted by Samaritan helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, where he remains in stable condition, the statement said.

It said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and alcohol is believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
