Indiana has 1st human West Nile case of year

Indiana has reported its first human West Nile virus case of the year, in Porter County, the state Department of Health said today.

Mosquitoes in 18 counties, including Allen, DeKalb, LaGrange and Steuben counties, have tested positive for the virus so far in 2014, the health department said in a statement.

The virus may be circulating in all 92 counties, however, and Indiana residents should take precautions to prevent mosquito bites, the statement said.
