Darlington to open 2nd store

Taking applications next week for 250 seasonal jobs

A holiday retail warehouse will have a second location for gift shoppers this year and plans to have at least 250 seasonal workers.

Darlington Holiday Warehouse of Fort Wayne on Thursday announced it will expand its footprint, opening an additional location at 615 Coliseum Blvd. W. on the city’s north side. The 42,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open Oct. 1, the same opening day for the existing Darlington warehouse at 3925 Airport Expressway on the city’s south side.

Local owner Brian Ellis said in a statement that he plans to hire 250 to 300 workers for the 12 weeks that the two stores will be open during the holiday season.

Applications will be accepted at both locations Monday through Thursday next week. Information on wages was not immediately available.

Darlington offers “high quality goods and closeouts from hundreds of name-brand manufacturers at discount prices,” according to the statement. The warehouse offers gift and personal items including mugs, frames, books, toys, candles, costume jewelry, pet merchandise, tools, vases and kitchen items.

More than 100,000 books for children will also be available during the stores’ 2014 season. The warehouse also will sell wrapping paper and bows.

The stores will be open seven days a week.
