Some sickened by laced synthetic pot

A batch of synthetic marijuana that recently made its way to Fort Wayne was apparently laced with a new chemical and has sent several people to the hospital, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Synthetic marijuana, or spice, produces an effect similar to marijuana, but because of the chemicals used often creates unknown side effects.

Police said there have been a number of recent occasions in which police and medical personnel encountered people who ingested the tainted product.

In some cases, the person showed psychotic behavior and required immediate hospitalization.

City police are warning users to be aware of the serious medical consequences that could result from use of the product.
