Crash victim had medical emergency

A Fort Wayne resident who died Monday morning after a crash at an entrance to Lutheran Hospital suffered a medical emergency before the crash, according to the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

William Eversole, 89, was driving a van on West Jefferson Boulevard about 9 a.m. when he crashed into two vehicles and then hit a utility pole at the intersection with Olde Canal Place, according to the coroner’s office and Fort Wayne Police Department.

The drivers of the other vehicles were not injured, but Eversole was taken to a hospital where he died, police said.

The coroner’s office said Eversole suffered a “significant medical event” before the crash and did not die from injuries he received.
