Suicidal man ends standoff peacefully

A report of a suicidal person armed with a gun and barricaded in the bedroom of a Fort Wayne home Monday was peacefully resolved about three hours later.

Police were called about 8:30 p.m. to a home in the 1000 block of Farwood Avenue on a report that a man was locked in his bedroom and made threats to kill himself, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

When police first arrived, they tried to no avail to persuade the man to come out of the room and surrender.

Eventually, the department’s Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team were called to the home.

Members of the CRT talked with the man, and about 11:30 p.m., he came out of the home and surrendered to police.

Officers took him to a hospital for evaluation.
