Fire damages house on W. Dewald

A house sustained moderate damage from a fire this morning, but all five people living there escaped without injury, according to a statement from the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived at a two-story house in the 741 block of W. Dewald Street shortly after 10:40 a.m. where they found a fire on the first floor. Two parents and three children who lived in the house had already evacuated.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the house’s utility room and kitchen area, the statement said. They had the fire under control by 10:49 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the statement said.
