The tax man will get some helpers.
Each Thursday this month, H&R Block will conduct job fairs and interviews from 3 to 7 p.m. at its 3918 W. Jefferson Blvd. location.
The firm is seeking to fill 80 to 100 tax-preparer positions. Individuals hired will work in Fort Wayne, Auburn and Huntington. Starting pay is $8 to $16 an hour.
Applicants who are already certified preparers will earn more, while others will receive paid training.
“We were underserved last tax season, so we are starting recruiting early,” spokeswoman Jamés Etim said.
“People should bring their resume and be prepared for a possible interview.”
Etim on Friday said a reason for the staff shortage is related to a growing Hispanic population.
She said the Affordable Care Act also could result in more filers.
H&R Block this summer sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommending that open enrollment for health care coverage be extended to April 30 to encompass an entire tax season instead of just a few weeks.
The company said the extension would help alleviate confusion of the tax and enrollment deadline, address affordability concerns and allow for better understanding about tax and health care insurance options.
