Chase crash victim identified

A 40-year-old Fort Wayne man has been identified as the victim of Wednesday's fatal crash on Airport Expressway that ended a police pursuit, the Allen County coroner's office said today.

Jermaine Lamar Walker died in the accident from blunt force trauma, the coroner's office said in a statement following an autopsy.

Walker was pronounced dead at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday at Lutheran Hospital, the statement said.

The crash near Ardmore Drive ended a police pursuit that began shortly before 7 p.m. at Southgate Plaza, continued south and ended on the expressway when Walker crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a pickup truck. The driver of the pickup was not injured.

The coroner's office said Walker's death is the 13th traffic fatality in Fort Wayne during 2014, and remains under investigation by its office, city police and the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.
