Fatal crash near State & Coliseum

A motorcyclist was speeding and doing a wheelie when he collided with a left-turning pickup truck on State Boulevard this afternoon, according to police.

The crash, which happened around 12:40 p.m. in front of a Kentucky Fried Chicken near the intersection of State and Coliseum boulevards, left the motorcyclist dead and the truck charred.

According to Fort Wayne police, the motorcyclist was traveling east on State when witnesses say he picked up speed and popped a wheelie. The motorcyclist lost control of the bike at some time, according to police.

The pickup truck was facing west on State and attempting a turn. As the truck turned, the motorcyclist hit the truck right at its fuel tank, police said.

The truck immediately ignited.

Two men in the truck were not injured.

The crash left wreckage strewn across the street. State was closed for more than an hour.
