Motorcyclist critically hurt in downtown Fort Wayne crash

A motorcyclist was critically injured Monday afternoon when his bike collided with a car in downtown Fort Wayne, city police said.

The man, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital, police said in a statement.

Police said the motorcyclist was northbound on Van Buren Street approaching West Jefferson Boulevard at 3:05 p.m. when a car traveling south on Van Buren attempted a left turn onto Jefferson.

The vehicles collided in the intersection, the statement said.

It said the three people in the car were not injured. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet, police said.

They said the collision remains under investigation by city police, the Allen County prosecutor's office and the county coroner's office.
