Chain O'Lakes trail accessible by power wheelchair

A hiking trail at Chain O'Lakes State Park in Albion has become more accessible, thanks to a new power wheelchair the park has obtained, the Department of Natural Resources said today.

Organizers of the Indiana Trail 100 trail race at the park recently donated an all-terrain power wheelchair to be used on Trail 3, the Division of State Parks & Reservoirs said in a statement.

The trail features rolling woods, a creek with an accessible bridge and a beaver dam, the statement said.

It said the joystick-operated wheelchair is equipped with a seat belt and arm and leg rests. The chair rolls across sand and up challenging grades.

The wheelchair is available free from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the nature center. A valid state ID is required.
