Angola robbery sparks chase, standoff

– Authorities say a 38-year-old man suspected of a robbery in Indiana fled to Michigan, where he took a person hostage inside an adult novelty store.

Branch County sheriff’s officials tell WOOD-TV that the man was arrested after a standoff Tuesday at the Lion’s Den Adult Superstore near Coldwater.

No one was hurt.

Michigan State Police Lt. David Wood said a police dispatcher was able to establish a rapport with the man by phone, and she was able to persuade him to come out and surrender.

The Clinton, Michigan, man is in the Branch County jail.

According to the sheriff’s office, he robbed a drugstore in Angola in Steuben County about 10 a.m. The sheriff’s office said a police chase ended 25 miles north at the adult store near Interstate 69.
