Man admits guilt in child molesting

A New Haven man admitted Tuesday to child molesting in exchange for a 10-year cap on his prison sentence.

John D. Conant pleaded guilty to a single felony charge of child molesting, admitting to inappropriately touching a 3-year-old boy in the garage of a family member's home.

According to court documents, Conant told police he became “excited” after seeing a photo on his phone and that led him to act out against the boy. But he stopped when the boy said what Conant was going to do was “icky,” court documents said.

He will be sentenced in August and faces no more than 10 years in prison, according to the terms of a plea agreement.
