Husband pursues wife in car chase, dies in rollover

A domestic disturbance led to a car chase, a crash and, ultimately, one Fort Wayne man’s death Sunday night.

George Collins, 54, was killed when he wrecked a van at Paulding and Minnich roads near Interstate 469 around 10:30 p.m.

A fight between Collins and his wife precipitated the crash, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

His wife ended up driving another vehicle down Paulding Road with Collins in pursuit, police said.

Collins then crashed his van, the only vehicle involved in the wreck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said speed was likely a factor in the crash. The Allen County coroner ruled his death an accident.

It’s the 11th traffic fatality in the county this year.

Collins had an extensive criminal history dating back to at least 1990, according to the Indiana Department of Correction.

He had been convicted of resisting law enforcement several times and burglary before being arrested on charges of drug possession.

Recently, he had violated his probation on a felony drug possession conviction and in April finished his latest stint with the Department Of Correction.
