4-hour standoff ends in domestic-violence arrest

A Grover Hill, Ohio, man was arrested Thursday night after a four-hour standoff with police, the Paulding County sheriff said today.

The 56-year-old man was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence and was released from the county jail on bond, Sheriff Jason K. Landers said.

Landers said deputies were dispatched to the man's home about 5:25 p.m. Thursday on a report from a woman that the man had a gun and had threatened her, and that she was locked in a room.

Deputies used a ladder to remove the woman from the home through an upstairs window, he said.

After that, Landers said, the county's special response team was activated, and officers and resources from the Van Wert and Allen County, Ohio, sheriff's offices arrived at the home.

After about four hours of attempting to make contact with the man, he began communicating with officers and agreed to surrender, the sheriff said. The man was taken into custody without incident.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Grover Hill Fire and EMS and the Paulding Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
