5th Christie aide to be questioned on traffic jams

TRENTON, N.J. – The aide New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has picked to be his next chief of staff is set to be the fifth person from his administration to appear before lawmakers investigating politically motivated traffic jams.

The aide, Regina Egea (eh-JEE’-uh), is scheduled to appear Thursday before a joint legislative committee.

Lawmakers are expected to ask her about being forwarded an email from an official at the transit agency that runs the bridge whose approach lanes were closed, causing the massive traffic backups. The transit official had ordered that the lanes be reopened.

Legislators say they are holding off on calling more people to testify, partly to avoid conflicting with a federal criminal investigation.

Republicans lawmakers say the legislative probe is more about politics than fact-finding and should end entirely.
