Grandma accused of using 4-year-old in burglary

MEDINA, Ohio – Police say a woman used her 4-year-old grandson to commit an early morning burglary at a northeast Ohio restaurant last month.

Authorities said it appears 50-year-old Caron Simmons of Chippewa Lake broke a front-door window at the Medina restaurant and lowered the boy inside around 3 a.m. June 15.

Medina Police Chief Patrick Berarducci said a surveillance camera recorded video of the boy opening the back door for his grandmother and then leaving shortly after.

Simmons is charged with breaking and entering and is in jail in Medina County, south of Cleveland. Berarducci said additional charges are expected.

Berarducci said nothing appeared to be stolen. He has asked the county’s family services agency to investigate the boy’s circumstances.

It does not appear that Simmons has an attorney yet.
