Allen GOP sets caucus for recorder

The Allen County Republican Party will have a caucus election Aug. 9 to fill the term of county Recorder John McGauley.

McGauley is leaving office a day earlier to become the superior courts executive. He is in his second four-year term as recorder and is prohibited from seeking a third straight term in the Nov. 4 general election.

Republican precinct committee officials no doubt will select McGauley’s chief deputy, Anita Mather, to fill the remaining months of his term. She was unopposed in the May 6 GOP primary election and has no opponent in the general election.

Candidates for recorder must file to run at least 72 hours in advance of the caucus, which will be at 9 a.m. Aug. 9 at GOP headquarters, 135 W. Main St., according to Republican Chairman Steve Shine.
