Two meth lab busts result in 5 arrests

Police found meth labs in two back-to-back investigations on Fort Wayne’s near-northwest side Thursday.

The first began Thursday when the city police department’s meth suppression unit closed a lengthy investigation after officers searched a home at 1036 1/2 St. Marys Ave., the police department said.

Police found an active one-pot meth lab and paraphernalia in an upstairs apartment during a search.

They arrested the resident, Mason Arnold, 60, on charges of methamphetamine possession, maintaining a common nuisance, manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of precursors.

After police wrapped up their investigation at Arnold’s apartment, they moved down the street to 830 St. Marys Ave. and conducted a search in Apt. 1, police said.

Inside the apartment, police found five adults and an active one-pot meth lab according to reports.

As a result, Amanda R. Lee, 26, was arrested on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine.

She also had a warrant charging her with dealing meth and maintaining a common nuisance. She was held without bail.

A man at the apartment, William H. Smiley, 51, was arrested on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of precursors. He was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Two others at the apartment were arrested on charges of visiting a common nuisance and paraphernalia possession.

The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health will test the apartments for contamination.
