66-year-old beaten, stabbed in her home

ELWOOD, Ind. – Authorities said a 66-year-old woman found dead in her home had been beaten and stabbed.

Madison County Coroner Marian Dunnichay released the cause of death for Linda Speer of Elwood on Thursday.

Investigators believe the slaying occurred sometime between late Sunday night and early Monday afternoon. Her daughter found Speer’s body Tuesday night.

Speer lived alone.

Speer’s neighbors said they’re shocked by her death.

Judy Shaw told The (Anderson) Herald Bulletin “it just boggles” her mind that someone would kill Speer. She said the woman would do anything for anybody.

No arrests have been made.
