Verbatim: Early morning crash leaves motorcyclist in critical condition

A statement released Thursday morning.

On Thursday, 07/10/2014, at approximately 02:58AM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 8500 block of Coldwater Rd. on a report of an accident involving a motorcycle. Officers arrived and located an adult male in critical condition. Paramedics arrived and transported the male to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The investigation so far has revealed the male driver, and sole occupant, was riding a motorcycle southbound on Coldwater Rd at a high rate of speed. The male failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway, and ended up going off of the west side of the roadway. The male was thrown from the motorcycle and landed several yards from the motorcycle. There were no other vehicles or objects struck in the crash, and no other persons involved. It is too early to determine if alcohol played a role, and at this time it does not appear that the rider was wearing a helmet.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department FACT team.
