2 pinned in US 20 head-on crash

Statement as issued Wednesday on the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:

On July 8, 2014 at approximately 2:30 PM the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to a personal injury crash just west of SR 327 on US Hwy 20. A black 2003 Land Rover SUV was westbound on US HWY 20, driven by Jeffrey Peters, age 48 of Fort Wayne, Indiana. A gray 2007 Toyota Avalon was eastbound on US HWY 20 driven by Sharon Meyers, age 71 of Pleasant Lake, Indiana. For an unknown reason, Meyers drove left of center and collided head-on with Peters in the westbound lane of US HWY 20. Peters and Meyers were both pinned inside their vehicles and had to be freed by fire rescue personnel. Peters and Meyers were later flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center by Samaritan helicopter. Peters and Meyers were both wearing seat belts and their air bags deployed. Alcohol is not considered to be a factor and the crash is still under investigation.

Assisting at the scene was the Orland Police Department, Angola City Police Department, Indiana State Police, Angola Fire Rescue, Steuben County EMS, Lagrange County EMS and the Orland Fire Department.
