Services set for Angola skydiver, 76

Services have been scheduled for George Arthur Speakman, 76, formerly of Rome City and most recently of Angola, who died Sunday in a skydiving accident near Marshall, Michigan.

Flying airplanes while he served in Korea, Speakman also learned how to jump out of planes – two passions that carried on the rest of his life, according to his obituary.

It said he was a stuntman in Hollywood for a couple of years, and then returned to northeast Indiana. He was a truck driver for Kidd Marshmallow and an Orange Township trustee for several terms.

Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hite Funeral Home, 403 S. Main St. in Kendallville. Funeral services with military honors will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Military honors will be conducted by members of the honor guard teams from the Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Kendallville American Legion Post 86 and active duty United States Army troops.

Memorials may be made to Noble County Community Foundation or to the family.
