A Tuesday afternoon house fire heavily damaged a Cass Street home, Fort Wayne firefighters said.
A woman and a child escaped safely before firefighters arrived, and no one was injured, the Fort Wayne Fire Department said in a statement. It said the blaze was controlled within 12 minutes and remains under investigation.
Firefighters were called to 1509 Cass St. about 4:20 p.m. and found flames erupting from a first-floor window and extending up the side of the two-story home into the attic, the statement said.
It said the flames melted the siding of the house next door at 1505 Cass St.
Firefighters said they were assisted by Fort Wayne police, the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, Neighborhood Code Enforcement, American Electric Power and Northern Indiana Public Service Co.
