Jeep driver dies after bus, airborne crashes

FORT WAYNE – A Jeep clipped a city bus and two light poles Monday morning before going airborne and hitting a utility pole. The driver was killed.

Fort Wayne police officers were sent to the area of Lake Avenue and Coliseum Boulevard North about 8:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found the red Jeep upside down with the male driver inside. He died at the scene.

According to a statement issued by the department, the Jeep was speeding east on Lake Avenue when it hit the Citilink bus and the lights, then crossed over Coliseum before going airborne on the north side of Lake Avenue.

The bus had passengers on board and medics were called in as a precaution, the statement said.

The name of the Jeep driver is to be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
