31-year-old drowns in lake

FORT WAYNE – A 31-year-old man drowned Monday at a lake in the middle of the Kekionga Shores subdivision on the city’s southwest side.

Adam Palm was located by the Fort Wayne Fire Department's water rescue team in about 10 feet of water about 30 feet from shore, Indiana conservation officers said in a statement.

It said Palm was swimming with several children when a beach ball they were playing with blew past him further out into the lake.

As he attempted to retrieve the ball, he began to struggle and then went under water, the statement said.

It said Fort Wayne and Allen County police assisted.

No lifeguard was on duty at the lake. Palm and the children were swimming in an area that has been routinely used by swimmers in the neighborhood for decades.
