Coroner: Driver in Monday crashes died from natural causes

FORT WAYNE – A Fort Wayne man in a Jeep that clipped a city bus and two light poles Monday morning before going airborne and hitting a utility pole did not die as a result of the crashes, according to the Allen County Coroner’s office.

It said that Michael Eugene Perry, 47, of Fort Wayne, died from natural causes.

Fort Wayne police officers were sent to the area of Lake Avenue and Coliseum Boulevard North about 8:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found the red Jeep upside down with Perry inside.

According to a statement issued by the police department, the Jeep was going east on Lake Avenue when it hit the Citilink bus and the lights, then crossed over Coliseum before going airborne on the north side of Lake Avenue.

The bus had passengers on board and medics were called in as a precaution, the statement said.
